What to Eat

These are just a few popular quick and easy recipies and suggestions for things to eat while out backpacking or camping. For backpacking the meals need to be quick to make and they need to be fairly simple so that you do not need to bring multiple pots and pans to cook in and save wieght. The best hiking food is lightweigh, tasty, calorie-packed and easy to make. Dinners are usually heavier and take a little longer to make because you are at camp so you arent in a hurry to go and lunches are fast and you shouldnt have to stop for long or take long to make it or even maybe be able to eat it on the go and breakfasts you can sometimes cook and sometimes you might have to spend a little while cooking but it depends on the meal.

Breakfast

  • Instand Oatmeanl: All you have to do to cook this type of oatmeal is heat up like a cup of water on your stove and pour it in the bag and you are good to go.

  • Granola: Just plain old granola is a great breakfast to have. You can add in some flavoring like maple or something and also put some raisin or m&m's in there if you like too and feel free to get creative.

  • Mini Bagels: You can get the mini bagels because they are easier to pack and will usually last longer and also bring along a variety of spreads and vary it up every day so you dont get bored of the same food over and over.

Lunch

  • Granola Bars: This is a great trail food because it doesnt spoil, it is kept in a seprate package and it is easy just to pull it out and eat it for a mid-hike snack.

  • String cheese: These are very easy and dont spoil very easy and are individually wrapped and taste good.

  • Beef Jerky: This stuff tastes great and definetly doesnt spoil and will keep forever and is a great way to brighten up you hike.

  • Cheese its: or any other kind of individually packaged snack like this works great on hikes.

  • Trail mix: this is easily put into small plastic bags and it great to have on the go.

  • Dehydrated fruit: There is many types of dehydrated fruit like apples, bannanas, pineapples, and many others that you can dry and put in bags and it is easy to eat on the go.

Dinner

  • Instant soups or noodles: They can come in a variety of tasty flavors and you will be at camp so you can start up the stove and enjoy a nice warm meal.

  • Freeze dried veggies:Stuff like corn can easily be dried or dehydrated and heated up in a pot and be good as new and you can enjoy another hot meal.

  • Rice: This is a very easy thing to make. All you have to do is boil some water, pour the rice in and it will be ready to eat in no time.
