Contests

What contests does the Lincoln Lutheran Band participate in?

  • All-State is a very hard select group to get into. You choose if you want to be a part of All-State. If you do, you get the music and then you audition sometime during the fall. After the audition you are told whether or not you have made All-State. If you made All-State there is a concert later that you perform in.
  • Marching Contests are usually in October and are just fun to go to. Marching competitions are fun because there are a whole bunch of bands there, and you get to watch other bands march and play. And who knows, sometime you might just see the drum major get off the podium and start banging on a cowbell.
  • District Music is the largest competition our band competes in. We do not compete against other bands, necessarily, but against ourselves. We perform concert songs to the best of our ability, in the hopes of getting a 1 or 1 plus. Districts can also include individuals and small groups who perform. Districts is a fun competition to go to because again, you get to spend the whole day with a bunch of music people, and the long rides are super fun.
  • Conference Music is an honor band. The directors in our conference get together and pick students to be in this band. The students who are picked are then given music to learn. The whole group of students get together one day and rehearse the music and then have a concert that night. Conference is great because you get to meet people from within your conference and especially people who play the same instrument as you. And you get to spend the entire day rehearsing, it is lots of fun.
