Marching and Pep Bands
Marching Band
- Ways to know you've been marching too long...
- you've worn your butt bag to your second class
- your socks are yellow and crusty, but you don't care, they'll work for at least another week.
- you're walking with someone and you are in step, but not on purpose. (aka you are a part of the marching band curse)
- you've given your instrument a name
- you enjoy getting up early to be at marching band at 7:00am.
- you feel a major sense of accomplishment when you are in line.
- you go to football games to watch the halftime show, not because football is important.
- you call the "football field" the "marching field" because that is what it really is.
- you play foot tag, but shhhh, Mr. Morris isn't supposed to know about that.
- you watch a movie after band camp, and most likely it is Monty Python.
- you've had the piccolo head joint at least once during the rehearsal, but so has everyone else, so it's ok.
- you get breakfast every Friday in Band class.
- you have show tunes stuck in your head all day.
- you want it to be cold at the beginning of the season, but when the cold actually comes, you want it to be hot.
- you refer to the band as "The Band of the Mist."
- when the blinker in your car is off beat from the music it bothers you.
- you don't mind carrying different colored poker chips around.
- you know the members of "The League of Destruction."
- you have to touch the magic cymbol before every performance.
- you play intense games of soccer, girls vs. boys.
- you think of the band room as your home.
- your section leader is the one who is complaining, not you.
- you hear "you just killed a baby" and know someone dropped a flute.
- your band director throws things at the intercom.
"Marching Band is like coffee-it's good as long as its not too hot or too cold."
What does the Marching Band do?
- Marching Band lasts for only a little while in the fall. It starts with Band Camp a week or two before school starts. At band camp we learn/relearn how to march, and also start learning our show. Marching Band continues through the football season. We are at school by 7:00 AM all days except Monday. We learn our show, work on our music, and continuously run everything over. The Marching Band marches at halftime during all home football games. Usually we also participate in a marching contest of some kind.
People in Pep Band have come to the realization that basketball games would be boring without the band.
- The pep band inhances the football/volleyball/basketball games we play at. We play many different songs, most of which are familiar to people. The Pep Band goes to all home football games and plays throughout the game. We have also played at volleyball games. During the winter the Pep Band plays at home basketball games. The point of having a Pep Band is to enhance the game and create an environment in which the athletes can compete to their best and stay excited.
