Cables

There are certain cables which are good for bass specifically, and some that are just quality cables, either way here are some quality cable brands, and types of cables:

  • Monster Cables: any type is good, but especially their bass cables.
  • Vox Professional Bass Guitar Cable: Very good cable for a bass guitar.

Straps

For a bass guitar, you usually want a thicker, wider, and more padded strap than that of a guitar strap. The reason for this is because the bass guitar is heavier than the average guitar, and you do not want to get uncomfortable while you are playing at a concert, because most likely you will be playing for a long period of time. Also, you usually want something that looks cool, and/or "goes" with the color of your guitar. You can get a plain color like black, or dar blue, or you can get patterns like checkerboard, or stripes. Also, most players play with their basses hanging low, but this is really personal preference. Krist Novoselic (Nirvana's Bassist-left) plays his bass super low, but other players like Paul McCartney (The Beatles Bassist-right) prefer to keep their basses high, around waist level or higher. Picks

If you use a pick for the bass, it is best to us a thicker pick. This is because the strings are larger, so it would make sense to use a thicker pick to pluck them with. The widths should be anywhere from 1-3mm thick

  • Dunlop Picks: These picks are durable, and last a very long time. Also, they are one of the few brands that make picks thick enough for basses.

    Amplifiers

Really, any amplifier can be used for a bass, as long as it is a bass amp. However, Ampeg is a very trustworthy brand that most professional bassist use. Also, another good brand of bass amps is the brand: Acoustic. These are cheaper but very good quality amps.
