Many young people seemed to spend a lot of time in downtown Kyiv hanging out with friends and shopping. The main square has an underground mall, which really capitalizes on space downtown. The glass dome, which is showing through the ground, is part of that mall. |

Another part of Ukrainian culture is the tradition. Ukraine was known as the bread-basket of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, which explains the loaves of bread that these girls, dressed in traditional folk ware, are holding. |

Unfortunately, many people begin smoking and drinking at a very young age, as there is no enforced law against this. It was not uncommon to see 13 year-olds wandering around downtown Kyiv with their friends and a cigarette or bottle. |
