Thanksgiving is a time for gathering around all the people you love and being thankful for everything and everyone you have been given. Pilgrims set sail for exploration away from Holland, where they suffered religious prosecution. As they reached better land and the hope for a future of their own contuined, they became very thankful. Pilgrims of Plymoth are said to be the first people to celebrate Thanksgiving around 1621. President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863 when northern and southern states declared peace. Thanksgiving is tradtionally celebrated the fourth Thursday of every November in the United States and in Canada, the second Monday in October. Thanksgiving day tends to be filled with activities that bring the family together. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade happens everything Thanksgiving. Family all across the United States either watch the spictacular floats travel down the road on their own tv or are front and center to witness every huge masterpiece. Later in the day, football games soar across each channel and a game of family flag football takes place outside. As the kitchen air fills the house with all the different foods, the amount of food is unreal. Family at the end of the day gather around the table and say the annual Thanksgiving prayer. The Thanksgiving prayer usually contains over a hundred different things of thanks, as each person goes around and says one thing they are thankful for. The prayer ends and the large amount of food begins to dwindle down. Thanksgiving brings families all across the globe to one dinning table each year, a table that contains many laughs, old stories and plans for the future.
