The reason this is a nice thing to have when you go out for a long run, and there not be a water fountain or any source of water, so it is good to become prepared. A bright vest or jacket is not necessary, but it is a good thing to have if you are running when it is dark, and you are running on a path that includeds crossing streets or nearing roads. It helps let the driver know that you are there.
