First Swimsuit

The first swimsuit was no swimsuit at all. In the start of the 18th century, swimsuits were invented mainly to cover up their body. Around 1855, swimsuits had bloomers and black stockings while drawers were added to prevent the problem of exposure. Between 1915-1930, the arms become exposed and black is not the color anymore. Around 1922, the neckline dropped.

First Bikini

The First Bikini was invented in July 25, 1946 at a Fashion Show. French Engineer names Louis Reard and fashion designer Jacques Heim.

Annette Kellerman was arrested on a Boston beach in 1907 for wearing a skin tight one piece. The swimsuit became accepted by society in 1910. Carl Jantzen made the first functional one piece in 1913 with shorts as bottoms and shirts with sleeves on the top. In the 1930's sleeves went away, sides were cut away, and the back was more cut out. By the 1940's two-pieces were familiar on the beach. Then finally in 1946, Loius invented the bikini.

First Tankini

The First Tankini was invented in 1998 in no where specific.

Anne Cole was the person who invented the clever two-piece which everyone knows as the tankini. She blended the freedom of the bikini with the more modest coverage of the one-piece swimsuit. The reason it became so popular is because women are always so self conscious of their bodies and hididng it. The introduction of tankinis varied in color and style.
