The Heisman Trophy, named after the former coach and DAC director, John Heisman, is awarded annually
to the most outstanding player in colle football. It is considered the most
prestigious and receives the most media attention than any other award. Every year from the first winner in 1935 to
this year's award to Mark Ingram this award has been given out in early December before the postseason bowl games begin.
Any player from any team in the country can win this award. Winners are chosen by a panel including 870 media voters,
all former living Heisman winners and, beginning in 1999, the
public, whose collective choice is given one vote. These voters vote on players, ususlly based on age, position, and their
bias.
