In Norway holidays and important days can be a little different from
America. One example is our National day. We celebrate them on
different days and for different reasons. Halloween is also an
"important" day for Norway and America, but it's bigger in the
US than in Norway. Many Norwegians don't even know when Halloween is,
and usually only small kids care about it. In America people decorate
and make plans weeks before the actual day. I think Christmas
is something of the same in Norway and America. We have a big dinner
with family and friends: usually turkey or rib. Some kind
of needle tree is put up in the house, covered in lights, ribbons, glass
ornaments, flowers, etc. with a star or an angel on top. Presents are
wrapped in festive paper and placed under the tree before Christmas.
These are opened either on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. In Norway
it's more normal to open them on Christmas Eve. |
