Sony

Sony's first video game system was the Playstation one. Sony actually had no intentions of ever making a video game system but Nintendo came to Sony for help. Nintendo wanted Sony to create a video game system with the video games on a disc instead of a cartridge. Sony demanded 25% of all income from the system and games but Nintendo wanted more, so they left to go have Philips develope the system. Sony took the research they had and developed a full blown system. The Playstation was a smash hit and has created some very well known video game titles. Ever since then Sony has been developing Systems and games. Nintendo did try to file a lawsuit against Sony for breech of contract but they lost.

Microsoft

Microsoft decided to venture into the video game system world. The Xbox was the first independently made video game system by Microsoft. Microsoft had done some work with Dream Cast and Sega but never made their own system before the Xbox. The Xbox gave the Playstation 2 competition and was quite successful. Although never outselling the Playstation 2, the Xbox did quite well. A while after the release of the Xbox Microsoft introduced Xbox Live, An online gaming atmosphere. You had to obtain a paid subscription to Xbox Live to play video games with or against other friends who had Xbox Live. This was very successful and is still a very popular thing today. Microsoft went on to create the Xbox 360, a sequel to the Xbox.

Nintendo

After Nintendo had success with their arcade games they decided to come out with a home-compatible gaming system. Nintendo developed the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) with removable cartridges. This was a new thing that had much success. The system did suffer some criticism because it froze up quite a bit but it was the first system with removable games. Eventually Nintendo produced many more ground breaking systems such as, The Nintendo Wii which is an all motion sensitive system. Nintendo has been and will be a Power house in video game systems for many years to come.
