History of the Systems

Magnavox Odyssey

The first video game system for the home was the Magnavox Odyssey released in 1972. This system was designed by Ralph Baer, Who had been working on it for years. Although the features were lacking this system was far beyond it's time. It offered video games in the comfort of your own home. This system was portrayed as only being able to work on Magnavox T.V.s (which was not true) so it did not have very good marketing. This system was mainly an opening to the world of home video game systems. Magnavox went on to make about 8 sequels to this system.

Mattel Intellivision

Later down the line came the Mattel Intellivision. This system offered 12 new games with the system, better graphics, and sound. This system was so legendary because Mattel said they would release a Keyboard for the system so many people bought this in hopes of making it their home computer. The keyboard was released 4years later but to expensive for most to buy.

NES

In 1985 Nintendo released the NES. This system was amazing. It offered removable games and better graphics. It also had many games and colorful games at that. Video games were not so dull now. Many people bought this system which helped Nintendo make it to the top of the gaming world for quite awhile.

Playstation 1

In 1995 The Sony Playstation was introduced. This system had the best graphics and sound for it's time period. The Playstation also had video games on discs. This is what made the system one of the best systems ever. It was the first to introduce fun and addicting games in a compact disc format. The Playstation went on to become known as one of the best gaming systems of all time.

Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii

Last but not least are the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii. I lump these systems together because they all have the same ideas behind them. The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 are very similar. They both produce amazing graphics, games, and hours of entertainment. They also both have online gaming. Both systems are only separated by preferences in my opinion. The Nintendo Wii is amazing because it was the first system to possess the motion controlled aspect of gaming. Although both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are both coming out with motion controls the Wii set the bar for them.

Future

The future of video games lays in the consumers hands. Whatever makes the most money will be made. Eventually I’m sure they will make 3-D games. I say this because the Playstation harnesses the ability to support 3-D material. Also you will probably be able to do anything on a video game system in a few years, they already have web browsers and can hold your music and movies. So the future is looking up for videogames.
