Time Trails
Time Trails were to see if you would make Varsity or JV. All the Lincoln Highschools
were out there doing their time trails and to see where they are at. And at the end of the
races we had some breakfast with some bagels, jucies and milk, it was a real fun time.
Seward Meet
The Lincoln Lutheran High School cross country boys and girls teams opened up the 2009 season in
Seward Thursday at the Thorell Invitational. Fifteen (15) teams competed including three Class B
teams and three Class A teams with both fields numbering about 200 runners. The girls ran tough
against the upper class competition finishing in 7th place lead by Karstin Ptaschek's 25th place
in a time of 17:47.5, followed closely by Paige Orth, 27th in 17:52.22. Finishing in third for
the warriors was Anne Heibel, 36th in 18:12.9, followed by 39th, Erin Heiden, 18:24.8, Kayla
Asche, 54th, 18:58.5, Julie Gyland, 71st, 19:31.5, Lexie Volk, 80th, 19:46.2, Hanna Dowling,
97th, 20:22.2, Makayla Patschek, 103rd, 20:34.6, Meredith Hein, 112th, 20:56.8, Laura Rasmussen,
139th, 22:12.8, Andrea Paul, 145th, 22:32.9, Rachel Royuk, 151st, 22:40.7, and Jenna Ripke,
159th, 23:07.4. The girls finished ahead of preseason 6th ranked Milford, and just behind the
Lincoln North Star Class A girls by 5 points.
On the boys side the Warriors were lead by Andrew Malans 10th place medal finish in a time of
18:11.9 which resulted in the boys 9th place finish. Other finishers on the boys side included
and 18th place medal for Dane Stahr, 18:34.9, Kolby Johnson, 36th, 19:25.9, Nick Claridge, 64th,
20:39.3, Mitchell Volk, 84th, 21:14.9, Joseph Eley, 85th, 21:15.1, Sam Malan, 87th, 21:24.8,
Paul Gerbers, 134th, 23:33.4, David Tegler, 149th, 24:15.9, Trevor Craig, 162nd, 25:21.8, Alex
Heiden, 165th, 25:24.4, and Adam Heiden, 168th, 26:03.5. The Warriors next compete
Tuesday September 8th at Arlington at 5:00pm.
Arlington Meet
The second meet of the year proved to provide plenty of
excitement and improvement for the boys and girls cross country teams, highlighted by
Andrew Malan winning his first Cross Country Championship by dominating the field at
Arlington. His time of 18:51.7 on the brutally hilly course under hot and humid
conditions. Andrew was followed by Dane Stahr (7th place medal) in a time of 19:31.7,
Kolby Johnson;18th, 20:50.0 (lost a shoe for the last half mile), Nick Claridge; 28th,
21:41.9, Joseph Eley; 47th, 22:40.2, and Sam Malan finshing last of the varsity in 48th
place with a time of 22:46.4. Junior Varsity side Mitchell Volk finished in 54th place
with a time of 23:09.9, Alex Heiden; 76th, 26:02.7; Paul Gerbers; 78th, 26:14.9; Trevor
Craig; 83rd, 26:40.0; David Tegler; 87th, 26:56.7; and Adam Heiden; 94th, 28:50.3.The
boys team finished in third place with 50 points, just behind Arlington with 42 points.
On the girls side, Paige Orth led the way in 8th place in a time of 19:05.0 followed
by Julie Gyland with a 10th place medal in a time of 19:38.3. Rounding out the girls
strong varsity Runner-up team finish was Anne Heibel; 11th, 19:43.6, Erin Heiden; 12th,
19:46.9; Kayla Asche; 14th, 19:57.2; and Meredith Hein in 15th place in a time of 20:18.8.
The girls varsity team placed an incredible six girls in the top 15 places. The Junior
Varsity was lead by Lexie Volk; 17th, 20:23.0; Hanna Dowling; 28th, 21:47.5; Makayla
Ptaschek; 29th, 22:06.5; Rachel Royuk; 38th, 22:45.6; Andrea Paul; 43rd, 23:25.8; and
Laura Rasmussen; 47th, 23:55.7. Rounding out the girls race was Jenna Ripke in 49th
place in a time of 24:26.9. All these girls earned a medal in the JV competition.
Karstin Ptaschek did not race.
Fremont Meet
The Lincoln Lutheran Cross Country team turned in their best effort of the year with a runner-
up finish among the fourteen team field at the Fremont Bergan Invitational. Platteview won the
Championship with 40 points, with Lincoln Lutheran only 2 points out with 42 points. The boys
team was led by Andrew Malan finishing 3rd with a time of 18:05.0, followed by Kolby Johnson
7th, 18:39.0 with his best race of the year to date. He just edged out teammate Dane Stahr;
8th, 18:40.0. Joseph Eley stepped up and ran a personal best 20:40.0 for a 26th place finish
team scoring spot. Rounding out the varsity competition was Sam Malan with a PR of 21:16.0,
35th place and Mitchell Volk; 41st, 22:01.0.
On the girls side, finishing in third place amongst a strong team field with Fort Calhoun
winning the team Championship with 38 points to Lutheran's 56 points. The Lutheran lady warriers
did edge out cross town rival Lincoln Christian for third by 3 points after getting beat by
them at the Seward Invitational by 19 points. The Warriors were led by Karstin Ptaschek in 10th
place with a time of 19:19.0 edging out team mate Paige Orth in eleventh place with a time of
19:20.0. Rounding out varsity girls team finishers were Anne Heibel; 16th, 19:40.0, Erin Heiden;
20th, 20:24.0, Julie Gryland; 20:26.0, and Kayla Asche; 27th, 20:58.0.
The Girls Junior Varsity race was highlighted by a clean sweep on the podium by all eight girl
competitors in the top 15. Meredith Hein was the Girls JV Champion in a time of 21:03.0
followed by runner up Lexie Volk with a time of 21:16.0. Rounding out the girls JV race was
Makayla Ptaschek; 5th, 22:49.0, Jenna Ripke; 8th, 23:12.0, Rachel Royuk; 10th, 23:32.0, Hannah
Dowling; 11th, 23:59.0, Andrea Paul; 12th, 24:23.0, and Laura Rasmussen; 14th with a time of
25:04.0. The boys JV team competition was led by Paul Gerbers in 9th place with a time of
24:06.0. Joining Paul on the medal stand was Alex Heiden finishing in 15th place with a time
of 24:52.0. Rounding out the boys JV field was Trevor Craig; 17th, 24:58.0, and Adam Heiden
18th, 25:14.0.
Fillmore Central Meet
The Lincoln Lutheran girlÕs team ran to a Fillmore Central Invitational Championship
amongst 17 teams Thursday behind four top eleven school record times. The girl warriers
edged out Lincoln Christian by 3 points to bring home the title. Led by an all time
personal best and 5th place standing on the school cross country record charts was Anne
Heibel with a time of 16:24.50 finishing the meet in 9th place. She was followed by
Paige Orth; 10th, 16:25.22 (6th on the all time school record charts), Karstin Ptaschek;
11th, 16:29.31 (7th on the all time school record charts), and Erin Heiden; 14th,
16:56.66, just missing the all time Top Ten school record chart in the 11th spot. Also
finishing for the Varsity with strong efforts and personal bests for the year were Kayla
Asche; 17th, 17:09.17, and Julie Gyland; 23rd, 17:33.37. On the Junior Varsity side the
girls took four of the top medal positions led by Girls JV Champion Meredith Hein in a
time of 17:44.79, followed by Lexie Volk; 3rd, 17:56.62, Hanna Dowling; 4th, 18:30.89,
and Makayla Ptaschek; 5th in a time of 18:35.44. The remainder of the Junior Varsity
who all had personal bests today was Rachel Royuk; 12th, 20:22.44, Jenna Ripke; 13th,
20:26.38, and Andrea Paul, 17th; 21:37.55,and Laura Rasmussen; 18th in a time of 21:44.74.
On the boys side the Team was fifth out of 19 teams led by Andrew MalanÕs seventh place
finish; with a Personal Best and second on the all time school record Top Ten charts
with a time of 16:58.06. He was followed by yet another school record Top Ten performance
; Dane Stahr; 11th, 17:09.2 is now tied with Kraig Hein for third on the school charts.
The remainder of the varsity runners all had personal bests followed by Kolby Johnson;
27th, 18:13.72, Nick Claridge; 40th, 18:42.65, Sam Malan; 62nd, 19:55.14, and Joseph
Eley; 67th, 20:10.61. The results of the boys Junior Varsity were Mitchell Volk; 12th,
with a PR of 19:32.61, Paul Gerbers; 36th, 21:48.26, David Tegler; 38th, 22:32.33, Alex
Heiden; 43rd, 22:57.68, Adam Heiden; 47th, 23:30.02, and Trevor Craig; 59th, 24:14.67.
The Cross Country team's next Competition is Tuesday September 22nd at Branched Oak Lake
beginning with the girlÕs Varsity competition at 5:30pm. Don't miss the excitement,
come out and cheer on your Warriors as they continue their "CLIMB" to STATE!
Malcolm
The Lincoln Lutheran Cross Country Teams competed at the Malcolm Invitational on Tuesday with
the girls bringing home a second place finish and the boys a fifith place finish. Leading the
girls team with a 8th place finish was Paige Orth in a time of 16:57.3 followed by Karstin
Ptaschek; 9th, 17:06.8, Anne Heibel; 10th, 17:14.4, Erin Heiden; 15th, 17:33.54, Julie Gyland;
16th, 17:47.3, and Kayla Asche; 22nd, 18:24.2.On the boys varsity side Andrew Malan finished
4th in a time of 17:42.6, Dane Stahr; 8th,18:05.1, Sam Malan; 41st, 20:29.3, Joseph Eley;
42nd, 20:29.6, Mitchell Volk; 49th, 21:16.7, and Nick Claridge; 55th, 22:26.4. The girls Junior
Varsity sweep the top three medal spots with Meredith Hein winning the race in a time of
19:03.29, followed by Lexie Volk; 2nd, 19:07.7, Makayla Ptaschek; 3rd, 19:23.5, Hanna Downing;
5th, 20:07.1, Jenna Ripke; 8th, 20:31.9, Lauren Holbein; 12th, 21:17.7, Andrea Paul; 13th,
21:21.8, Rachel Royuk; 14th, 1:33.9, and Laura Rasmussen; 18th, in a time of 25:02.5. The boys
Junior Varsity finishers were, Paul Gerbers; 14th, 22:59.7, Alex Heiden; 17th, 24:11.1, Trevor
Craig; 20th, 24:25.4, and Adam Heiden, 21st, 24:26.8.
Kearney
The Lincoln Lutheran Girls Cross Country team had their best performance of the year to
date, finishing third out of a competitive field of twenty teams in Class C. Among those
teams Lincoln Lutheran defeated were the second and third ranked teams in the state;
Broken Bow and Fort Calhoun. Number one ranked Pierce won the meet followed by fourth
ranked Columbus Scotus only edging the Warriors by 16 points. Leading the Lutheran girls
were medalists, Karstin Ptaschek; 11th, 16:40.5, and Paige Orth; 12th, 16:40.6. They were
followed by Anne Heibel; 27th, 17:15.5, Erin Heiden; 28th, 17:15.9, Julie Gryland; 33rd,
17:26.5, Kayla Asche; 51st, 18:17.4, Lexie Volk; 70th, 19:09.1, and Meredith Hein; 75th,19:24.6.
On the boyÕs side, they finished tied for eighth with Bennington with 163 points out of
a competitive field of twenty teams which included six of the Class C top ten ranked teams.
Andrew Malan was the boyÕs only medalist finishing in 16th place in a time of 17:38.5.
He was followed by Dane Stahr; 24th, 18:07.9, Kolby Johnson; 59th, 19:00.6, Nick Claridge;
71st, 19:24.3, Mitchell Volk; 113th, 20:24.9, Joseph Eley; 118th, 20:27.6, and Sam Malan
;134th, 20:48.2. A total of around 200 athletes competed in the boyÕs race.
Pioneer Park
The Lincoln Lutheran Cross Country Teams battled 40mph winds and the competition at the Lincoln
Lutheran Invitational Thursday to bring home a Girls Championship and a Boys Runner Up in the
Team Standings. The girls won the Team title with all six varsity girls bringing home medals in
the Top Twelve. Paige Orth led the way with a fifth place finish in 16:57.0 followed by Erin
Heiden; 7th, 17:11.0; Anne Heibel, 9th, 17:41.0; Karstin Ptaschek, 10th, 17:42.0; Julie Gryland,
11th, 17:51.0, and Kayla Asche, 12th, 18:13.0. Andrew Malan led the boys to a runner up finish
behind State ranked Louisville 33-19 in 3rd place overall with a time of 17:44.0. He was followed
by Dane Stahr; 5th, 18:15.0, and Kolby Johnson 7th, 18:42.0, all three making the medal stand.
Rounding out the varsity boys were Nick Claridge; 23rd, 19:51.0, Mitchell Volk; 26th, 20:06.50,
and Joseph Eley; 28th, 20:11.0
The Results of the Junior Varsity were dominated by Lincoln Lutheran athletes with nine of the
top ten girlÕs standings bringing home medals and on the boyÕs side six out of ten were won by
the Warrior's. Both Junior Varsity girls and boys Champions were won by Lincoln Lutheran, Sam
Malan in the boys with a time of 20:17.0 and Makayla Ptaschek, 19:18.0 followed closely by Lexie
Volk in second; 19:18.50. Hanna Downing took the bronze medal in a time of 19:39.0, Meredith
Hein; 4th, 20:11.0, Jenna Ripke; 6th, 20:41.0, 20:47.0, Rachel Royuk; 8th, 20:53.0, Lauren
Holbein; 9th, 21:09.0, Andrea Paul; 10th, 21:15.0, and Laura Rasmussen; 12th, 22:02.0. On the boys
side Paul Gerbers won the bronze medal in a time of 22:19.0, followed by Alex Heiden; 5th,
22:43.0, Adam Heiden; 6th, 22:53.0, Trevor Craig; 7th, 23:59.0, and David Tegler; 8th, 24:31.0.
"I was very proud of the team, they all competed hard and gave 100% efforts today in tough
conditions, this is a very special team" stated coach Bredehoft. Thanks to all the parents and
volunteers who helped out today at the meet.
Conference at Pioneer Park
The Lincoln Lutheran Lady Warrior cross country team won the Centennial Conference Cross Country
Crown on Friday October 9th beating second place; fourth ranked Columbus Scotus by 20 points.It
was the first ever conference crown for the program and a impressive team showing placing the top
five runners in the top 15 medal positions. The Warriors were led by Anne Heibel's 6th place
finish in a time of 16:44.0, followed closely by Paige Orth; 7th, 16:48.1, Karstin Ptaschek; 8th,
16:52.7, Erin Heiden; 11th, 17:13.5, Julie Gryland; 15th, 17:32.0, and Kayla Asche; 25th, 18:02.9
all with season bests on the Pioneer Park course. The lady Junior Varsity team continued their
domination by placing three in the top five and taking first place in all six of their meets
this year. This time Lexie Volk took the Championship in a time of 18:00.7. She was followed by
Meredith Hein; 4th, 19:12.3; Hanna Downing; 5th, 19:18.5, Lauren Hohbein; 13th, 20:21.0, Jenna
Ripke; 16th, 20:57.6, Rachel Royuk; 17th, 21:03.9; Makayla Ptaschek; 22nd, 21:40.5, Andrea Paul;
23rd, 21:45.6, and Laura Rasmussen; 29th, 22:16.4.
In the boys 5K race Lincoln Lutheran took third place in a competitive field led by Andrew Malan's
7th place finish in a time of 17:51.2. He was followed by Dane Stahr; 12th, 18:12.5, Kolby Johnson;
17th, 18:32.4, Nick Claridge; 30th, 19:28.8, Joseph Eley; 40th, 20:27.3, and Mitchell Volk; 44th,
21:35.6. On the Junior Varsity side the Warriors were led by Sam Malan; 12th, with a personal
season best time 19:55.9. He was followed by Alex Heiden; 54th, 22:25.6, Adam Heiden; 57th,
22:30.2, Paul Gerbers; 60th, 22:46.0, David Tegler; 63rd, 23:17.5, and Trevor Craig; 65th, 23:31.7.
District Meet at Fairbury
The Lincoln Lutheran boys and girls cross country teams qualified for the State Meet at the
Fairbury Districts Thursday with both teams winning the runner-up District Titles. The Boys
finished second to Milford's 29 points with 58 points. The girls were edged out for the
Championship by 2 points to District Champion Milford 36-38 in a close race. The boys were led
by Andrew Malan's 4th place finish in a time of 18:57.5, followed by Dane Stahr; 10th, 19:05.7,
Kolby Johnson; 18th, 19:47.6, Nick Claridge; 26th, 20:19.5, Sam Malan; 43rd, 21:26.2, and Joseph
Eley; 52nd, 22:11.6. The girls were led by Anne Heibel's personal best and third all time school
record time of 16:10.8 finishing her in fifth place overall. She was followed by Paige Orth;
8th, 16:17.6, Karstin Ptaschek; 11th, 16:23.1 and Erin Heiden; 16th, 16:40.6. All of whom posted
on the all time Top Ten Cross Country Charts. Rounding out the girls results were Julie Gryland;
18th, 17:15.7, and Kayla Asche; 19th, 17:27.6.
State Meet
The Lincoln Lutheran High School cross country team finished its season Friday at the State Meet
in Kearney. The girlÕs team finished the meet in sixth place among the Class C twelve team field,
only two points behind fifth place finisher Wayne. The boys team finished the year in the Top
Ten placing tenth led by Andrew Malan's 26th place finish in a time of 18:00.7, he was followed
closely by Dane Stahr; 31st, 18:07.1. Rounding out the boys team results were Kolby Johnson;
73rd, 19:14.5, Nick Claridge; 79th, 19:41.6, Joseph Eley; 87th, 20:38.1 and Sam Malan; 88th,
20:39.1. The girls were led by Paige Orth; 21st, 17:01.7, Anne Heibel; 36th, 17:22.4, Karstin
Ptaschek; 39th, 17:28.3, Erin Heiden; 49th, 17:39.1; Kayla Asche; 77th, 18:40.9, and Julie
Gryland; 78th, 18:45.4.
